It will be packed inside a sturdy cardboard tube, which protects it during shipping. The tube has a cap fastened with staples, which you should remove before taking out the rug.

Only thing which is not their fault but might like to follow up on is the damage to packaging, it was lucky it was only the mat as the packaging was destroyed. Anything breakable would of smashed.
